GENerate Application

GENerate
Aging Wisely, Generatively, and Soulfully

GENerate is a one-year, immersive experience for adults exploring the meaning of aging and its transitions in an open communal context, guided by Lab/Shul’s everybody-friendly, artist-driven and God-optional approach to Jewish learning and living. Cohort 4 will meet on Zoom throughout the year and gather for a mid-process in-person retreat in New York City.

As a participant in this process, you can expect:

  • To be met with curiosity and personalized interest from facilitators around your process of grappling with aging

  • To be provided with readings, discussion questions, and prompts for creative work to deepen your learning and reflection throughout the process

  • To engage with contemporary resources on aging, to study sacred text, to engage in guided experiences of ritual and contemplative practice, and to be led through a process of co-creating a culminating ritual with the other members of the cohort.

  • To have dedicated, one-on-one time pastoral reflection with the GENerate facilitators at three points in the year

  • To have an opportunity to get to know other people exploring what it means to age with wisdom

  • To receive GENerate-specific invites to wider Lab/Shul community events

In return, please:

  • Save the dates for our cohort meetings on your calendar and make every effort to attend each one

  • Share of yourself as openly as you feel comfortable throughout the process, and to witness others with sensitivity

  • Engage with readings, discussion prompts, and prompts for creative work to the best, and to follow your own curiosity where it leads you

The full year program costs $2750, with an additional $500 for the in person retreat (travel and accommodations not included). Financial assistance is available — if this program sounds like you and the cost is prohibitive, please let us know, and we'll find a way to make it work!

Space is limited, and we are carefully curating a cohesive community, so we may not be able to accommodate everyone who applies. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to seeing your replies!
